Three Secrets to Paying for Graduate School

Everyone knows how expensive graduate school can be… Just thinking about the debt and the loans can bring about anxiety and panic.

But not everyone knows that there are hundreds, no, thousands of scholarship opportunities for incoming and current graduate students. You just have to know where to look.

Secret #1

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies offers several scholarships for MA program students. All applicants are considered for these scholarships.

Secret #2

Federal Financial Aid. By filling out the FAFSA, you are automatically considered for Federal Direct loans, Perkins loans, PLUS loans, and work study positions.

Secret #3

External funding is, like, the best kept secret. Ever. This list of additional financial aid resources is extremely extensive. My advice to you is to go through this list and find the scholarships that are specific to you. Find those awards that will have the smallest pool of applicants, where you will truly stand out. There’s one in there for graduate students who are specifically from a certain town in California.

Since this list is so extensive, I will highlight one of these scholarships each week during the remainder of our Fall Quarter. From now until Thanksgiving I will willingly spill all the scholarship secrets.

So, don’t crack open your piggy bank just yet! Stay tuned for more secrets on how to pay for graduate school…
